Family Home Evenings consists of my husband’s sister, brother and his family and ourselves. For several years every week each family puts money into our Christmas Jar. Each year prior to Christmas we discuss a variety of people/places that our proceeds can be donated. Every year we are inspired regarding who our recipient(s) will be. We have given to those in need financially, those will some extra burdens during the Christmas Season, etc.

One year we gave to a husband and wife as the wife was seriously ill and the family needed to come from various places. We felt the money could be used to purchase food or places to stay for family members.

Another year we gave to a family who’s son was in a serious accident. The parents had to travel several miles and pay for lodging while their son was in the hospital. We have also given when we didn’t know a reason – we were just inspired.

We also give a copy of The Christmas Jars book, hoping that the people we give to will be able some day to do the same.
