Several years ago someone gave me a copy of “Christmas Jars” as part of a Christmas present and I promptly put it on the shelf of my bookcase. I had really good intentions of reading it during the Christmas season but that didn’t happen. Shortly after the first of the year I was organizing the bookcase and found myself flipping through the first few pages of the book….I was hooked. I read the book cover to cover and shared it with my family later that evening. They were all excited about the concept of using our change to bless someone the following Christmas.
This year we gave away our 5th Christmas jar and it blesses us more than those who receive it. No one in my family looks at change the same way now. If we see change on the ground, we pick it up and say, “Christmas Jar” 🙂 It has caused us to be good stewards and it has made us observe those around us as we look for who the recipient of the jar will be each year.
We’ve gotten so into it that we use a Sparkletts bottle now to collect our change. We filled peanut butter jars quickly and it’s like we are on a mission now to bless someone with the most that we can. It is exciting and we’ve been amazed at how God brings just the right person to us at Christmastime to give our jar to.
I can’t remember who gave me my first copy of the book but I will be forever grateful. Giving our Christmas Jar is one of the best parts of Christmas.
