Effingham, New Hampshire:
(Please enjoy this Christmas Jar poem submitted by a very grateful recipient.)
Down on our luckAbout all tapped outLosing faith in humanityCrying for helpTo God aboveWondering what we could doA phone callOn December eveChanged all thatI am a friend of a friendThe voice on the phone saidI would like to dropSomething off for your family.Tonight is fine, my wife said.A car pulls in front of the houseA knock on the front doorA shadow slides somethingInside the front door. When my eyes finally adjustI see a jarI carry it to the dining room.Inside the large jarIs a pile of changeTinged with green bills too.Our Christmas is madeAnd faith restoredThat someone does care.Inside also containedA copy of “The Christmas Jar”Read the book I did that nightWith a tear in my eyeI finished the book.Thank you to the angelWho did careTo help a family in needAnd restore our faithIn humanity.
